Facebook ad library says my ad isn't running

Step-by-step fix
- Confirm the ad is actually delivering in Ads Manager. Check: status is Active, impressions are above zero, spend is above zero.
- If impressions are zero, the ad isn't running yet — Ad Library is correct. Check for delivery issues separately.
- If impressions are above zero but Ad Library is empty, wait 24 hours for the Ad Library index to catch up.
- Search Ad Library by Page name, not by advertiser name. Ad Library indexes Pages, and only ads attached to a Page show up.
- Filter by country — Ad Library separates ads by delivery country. Make sure you're searching in the country where your ad is actually delivering.
- Check the ad category. Political and social-issue ads are fully indexed; other ads are only indexed if they're currently active and have public distribution.
- Look at active date range. Ads that only ran for a few hours or delivered zero impressions to the public won't appear.
- Dynamic Product Ads (DPA) and dynamic creative ads show as templates, not as individual variants.
Why it happens
Ad Library was launched in 2018 for political ads and extended to all ads in 2019. It's a transparency tool, not a campaign diagnostic tool. Ads don't appear in it for several reasons:
- Indexing delay. The Ad Library index updates on a 6-24 hour cycle. Newly active ads don't appear immediately.
- Ad must attach to a Page. Ads run from the "unknown Page" setup (rare but possible) don't appear.
- Dynamic ads show as templates. A campaign with 1,000 dynamic variations shows up as one or two template entries.
- Zero-impression ads aren't shown. If your ad is active but hasn't yet delivered, Ad Library doesn't list it.
- Short-lived ads that ran for less than a few hours may not be captured before they ended.
- Regional indexing. If your ad only delivered to a narrow region, the Ad Library search may not find it unless you filter to that region.
- Political ads under verification are hidden until authorisation completes.
- Some experimental features (collection ads, Reels-only ads, Instant Experiences) are indexed differently and may appear with different names.
- Meta platform outages sometimes prevent Ad Library updates for hours.
If your campaign reporting shows delivery and spend, your ad IS running. Ad Library missing it is almost always a reporting lag.
How to prevent it
- Use Ads Manager as the source of truth for whether your ads are running. Ad Library is a secondary check only.
- Wait 24 hours after launching before checking Ad Library.
- Check under the Page name, not your personal name.
- Filter by country to narrow the search.
- Use the Active Ads filter to exclude historical ads from the search results.
- Don't rely on Ad Library for competitive research to prove a competitor isn't running ads — just because it's not in Ad Library doesn't mean nothing is running.
- For audit purposes, use Meta's Page Transparency tab on the Page itself — it sometimes shows ads that Ad Library's search doesn't surface.
When to escalate to Meta support
Escalate only if:
- Your ad has been spending for 72+ hours with clear impressions in Ads Manager, and Ad Library still shows nothing.
- You're a political advertiser and your authorised ad isn't showing in the political ads section (this is a compliance issue, not a cosmetic one).
- Ad Library is showing ads you never ran against your Page.
